Permission to obtain a foreign nationality
The application shall be handed to the nationality section at the PENA, or any of our consulates abroad, by the applicant or his/her representative by virtue of a special power of attorney. This application has two forms:
(A) Permission to obtain a foreign nationality while keeping the Egyptian one The application shall be handed supported with the following documents:-
• Proof of the Egyptian nationality of the applicant "their birth certificate and their father's". In some cases the grandfather's birth certificate shall be required.
• An identical copy of the valid foreign passport.
• An identical copy of the identity card, military service card, movement certificate for the previous three years directed to the military administration for those who request being exempted from military service for having double nationality.
In case of approval, the decision is issued within three months from the application handing over in the form of a decision from the Minister of Interior (without fees).
Permission to obtain a foreign nationality without keeping the Egyptian one
• Application of obtaining a foreign nationality without fees
The application shall be handed on the prepared form supported by the following documents:
(A) Proof of the Egyptian nationality of the applicant "their birth certificate and their father's". In some cases the grandfather's birth certificate shall be required.
(B) An identical copy of the valid foreign passport if it was the real foreign nationality.
(C) Special power of attorney to recess the Egyptian nationality (in case of handing the application by virtue of power of attorney).
• In case of approval, the decision is issued within three months from the application handing over in the form of a decision from the Minister of Interior. The applicant shall be considered non-Egyptian starting from the date of entry into force in the foreign nationality.
• Those who obtained a foreign nationality and recessed their Egyptian one, have the right to claim to keep the Egyptian nationality within one year of the real recession. They can also reclaim it after one year based on a decision from the Minister of Interior after paying EGP 53.40.
